Analisa
I was reading the story of David and Goliath. You know the young dude who took on the giant. It was more to the story than just an epic showdown.

You can read the whole story in I Samuel 17. It begins with the Philistines army challenging the army of Israel with one man. He was so huge and scary no one in Israel army would step up to the plate. Heck they actually ran when he showed up. Then came David.  David just didn't get it. He couldn't understand why everyone let this pagan giant threaten the people God was with.

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.-- I Samuel 17:48-50

We should feel the same way. What's your reaction to trouble?  Do you run or do you take a stand in faith. Do you believe the bad report? Or do you know that facts change.

God told his people they would get a land of milk and honey.  A good land, a place they would have forever. However they had to believe God and take the land.  So they sent spies in to see what the land was like and who lived there. The 12 spies came back and 10 gave a bad report. Oh yeah the food is good, the land is pretty but it's a land of giants.

But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”-- Numbers 13: 32-33

There out in the wilderness they were ready to pack it up and live with defeat. Except for one man. Caleb.  Before the unfaithful spoke he did.

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

Caleb believed God.  When life gives you hard blows will you believe God? Will you respond  by saying what the word says? That's the key. When money is low, let the poor say I am rich. When sick it's by His stripes I am healed. When trouble comes  it's I've been young and I've been old but I've never seen the righteous forsaken. When your dream seems dead it's, I know the plans God has for me, plans to give me a hope and a future. Are you faithful to believe God's word. To speak it in spite of your circumstance?

We can hide in our tents and beg for things to get better or we can rise up, with the word in our mouths and fight the good fight of faith. You have a choice my friend.  You can live in the blessing or die in the wilderness.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.--Proverbs 18:21

Analisa, a very timely word. We can hide in our tents and beg or rise up with the word....love this line. It's not just getting up that we have to do but we must get with the Word.

  2. Again your words speak to me. After feeling troubled for so long, it is easy to feel as though nothing will change and my hope only flickers not burns like it should. I will be thinking of this example in the coming days.

Amen, Analisa! This is a good word! We declare God good when things are going well. But do we do the same when times are troubled?

    Thanks for the encouragement!

The choice is ours. We actually make that choice each day -- continue with our Lord, or die in the wilderness and allow others to go where we belong.

Amen this is such a moving devotion, we have that freedom of choice, and I choose today to follow Christ in all things.
